The Storm Events database is the reviewed record of severe weather in the United States, kept by the National Centers for Environmental Information from the entries each forecast office prepares. An office checks the reports it received against each other and what it can verify afterward, discards what it cannot support, merges duplicates, and files each event with a type, a location, begin and end times, a magnitude where there is one, and a narrative. Entries are published monthly, between two and three months after the month ends, so a recent storm is absent from it for a season.

Its authority is the review, and the review is also its delay. A hail entry here was reviewed by a meteorologist with the whole day in view; the same event in a preliminary log was relayed within minutes. The two can disagree on size, on time and on whether the event happened at all; when they do, the reviewed entry is the one to cite and the preliminary one records what was known at the time. Some events are filed against a county or zone rather than a point, and such an entry did not happen at any one address.

In this archive an entry filed against a county is labelled so it is never read as a measurement at a place. A day carried by the reviewed record and a preliminary log counts as carried by two independent sources, and the product says when a recent day is still inside the window the reviewed record is written in.

How the document prints it

In the report a reviewed entry is a row in the record table with its date, its type, its measurement, its distance and bearing from the address and its source, marked as measured; an entry filed against a county rather than a point carries a label saying so beside its type, and its distance is not printed as if it had one. The citation under Sources and method describes the database, states that it is the finalised federal record, and gives the radius and county scope it was searched at. Where the record is incomplete for the window, the summary carries a caveat saying how complete it is, and the document never fills the gap with an inference.

About this record

Everything here is reproduced from public federal and volunteer weather records, as the agencies and observer networks that publish them released it. Titan Weather compiles the record; it does not observe the weather, and it is not affiliated with any source it cites.

No archive holds everything. Storms cross places where nobody is standing, instruments and spotters cover some areas better than others, sources revise their records, and recent reports can take weeks to arrive and settle. Where this page shows nothing, nothing was found in the sources searched, within the period and area it states. That is not a finding that no weather occurred.
